In 2-stroke engines, the oil is mixed with petrol to carry out the lubrication function of the mechanical parts of the engine, as in 4-stroke engines, reducing friction, wear and corrosion.

To describe the characteristics of blend oil, some classifications have been introduced at an international level which assign different acronyms for each type of oil based on various criteria linked to the behavior of the oil and the type of engine for which it can be used.

API classification:

It is based on the type of use of the oil and classifies it according to the type of engine on which it can be used:

API TA: oil for small displacement engines up to 50 cc.

API TB: oil for engines with displacement from 50 to 125 cc

API TC: oil for engines from 200 to 500 cc

JASO classification:

It is based on some characteristics of the oil such as the lubricating power, the quantity of smoke emitted, the cleaning capacity etc.

The classification is simple:

JASO FA = Medium quality oil

JASO FB = Good quality oil

JASO FC = Excellent quality oil

JASO FD = SUPER quality oil

The types of oils can be mineral, synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Synthetics are more expensive but generate less smoke and are therefore less polluting.

because they are completely burned in the engine.

Mineral or semi-synthetic ones produce more exhaust gases and more waste in the engine.

When you put the tool away knowing that you will not use it for a long time, it is a good idea to empty the mixture tank.

This is because over time the petrol evaporates and the oil remains in the tank.

This changes the percentage of the mixture and could over time create engine problems with excessive gas leakage, greater deposits of burnt oil in the cylinder and therefore inevitable breakdowns.
