Leveling rake for sanding lawns, leveling lawns, creating new areas in the garden.
Sanding your lawn allows more air to reach the roots and creates natural drainage. The result is a level, perfect, strong and rich green lawn like that of golf courses. We recommend using the sand leveling rake after aerating the lawn. as it allows more effective drainage during the subsequent irrigation phase, preventing the aerated soil from compacting and preventing the correct flow of water through the soil.
The ideal handle length for the lawn rake is 72 inches. This is the best length for "raking".
What is Top Dressing?
Lawn top dressing is a sandblasting practice that brings significant benefits to the health of the lawn and consists of distributing a light layer of silica sand in the turf, after cutting it low and aerating it.
Benefits of top dressing/sanding
Top dressing improves many aspects of lawn life and reduces some critical issues typical of difficult terrain:
- improves the structure of clayey and compact soils
- reduces and prevents the formation of felt
- improves surface drainage and reduces water stagnation
- improves the organic substance content
- removes critical conditions that give rise to fungal attacks
- accelerates seed germination in overseeding even at low temperatures
- improves deep drainage (if a hole is also made)
How sandblasting is performed
Cut the lawn low to about 2.5/3 cm
Remove thatch using equipment that also makes a scarification (light superficial incision) of the soil
Reseed if necessary (always recommended after aerating!)
Distribute a 2 to 5 mm layer of silica sand, taking care to spread it evenly (optional: also perform a perforation operation)
Leave the lawn to rest for 2 days, carrying out only the watering for reseeding
Which sand to use?
It is common opinion that the best sand for turf is predominantly siliceous sand with a size (sieving) of 0.6 – 2mm. While limestone sand is not perfectly suitable on the one hand, on the other it is not as bad as is often claimed. If present in small quantities it does not cause trauma: the problem is not so much the modification of the pH but rather a tendency over time to compact and cause some benefits to be lost. Together with the sand, if it is not already present in the purchased product, an organic fertilizer should be mixed, possibly of vegetal origin, which will restore fertility to the soil.
How much sand to use?
The volume of sand varies depending on the need to modify the structure of the soil. Standard sandblasting requires distributing a layer of approximately 3-4 mm of sand, equal to 3-4 liters per square meter. If the soil is clayey it can go up to 5 liters per m2.
